FAQ - Sunrise Strips, Sun Protection and Skin Care

What Is the difference between UPF and SPF?

UPF is a rating generally used for clothing and other fabrics that protect you from the sun. It measures the amount of UVA and UVB radiation that penetrates the fabric and reaches the skin.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is a rating for sunscreens or other cosmetic products containing sunscreen. Theoretically, the SPF number indicates how long you can stay in the sun before your skin reddens. SPF is only used to rate a sunscreen’s ability to protect against UVB rays.

Are Sunrise Strips reusable?

We recommend that you use one strip per day, but it depends how you’re using it.  Strips used to cover a leg scar or an arm tattoo can stay on for days, even after swimming and showering! If you choose to take them off and then use them again the UPF protection will still be there but the adhesive just won’t be as strong.

Will the Nose Strip fit my nose?

Although noses come in  many shapes and sizes, we think that the shape that we have created is really fantastic! Since the fabric easily stretches, the strip can be pulled in any direction to make it fit each individual nose and allow consistent sun protection. These also work very well for children, who often make it difficult to reapply sunscreen all day! They can be trimmed to fit smaller noses, babies and toddlers.

Will there be a tan line around the strip?

Yes, which is why you should put sunscreen on the areas around the strip that are also exposed to the sun. Sunscreen should be applied AFTER the strips are adhered to clean, dry skin.

Why can’t I just use SPF50 sunscreen instead?

The difference between sunscreen and our UPF50+ Sunrise Strips is that the strips supply CONSISTENT APPLICATION. That means that they will not sweat off, or allow sun to affect ANY part of the area underneath the strip. In order for sunscreen to truly work it has to be reapplied constantly and our strips completely avoid the hassle of that.

While the entire face or body cannot be covered, our Sunrise Strips are intended for those specifically sensitive areas. Some people always burn under their cheekbones no matter how much they reapply sunscreen, others burn the tops of their ears - and of course the NOSE is the number one area that seems to be highly susceptible to sunburn. Scars  have to be completely covered in order to prevent a deepening of the pigment, and tattoos will fade and  blur  over time if they are exposed to the sun. There are so many ways to use our Sunrise Strips!

Will  the  adhesive  irritate  my  skin?

Most people tolerate  our  adhesive  extremely well,  even  those  with  sensitive  skin!  Please  see  our  ADHESIVE  INFORMATION  page  for  more  specific  details.
